Hello, Gardeners!

GardenBoy.co.za is a garden design and maintenance team that is dedicated to indigenous gardening in and around Jo'burg.

This website was requested by our clients who are new to gardening and keen to learn more. The information we are publishing will end up being a great resource for all Southern African garden enthusiasts to reference and learn from.

We already have a comprehensive list of plants covered in our Plantbase and are adding more daily. Soon we will have a list of more common mammal, insect, bird and reptile species that frequent our gardens.

If you would like us to email you with site updates, please register here or have a look at our Plantbase to search for information on a specific plant you are interested in by clicking here. We are adding new ones everyday!

Why all the fuss?

We will not be like any other gardening website in South Africa. We realise that there is more to a garden than the plants. There are birds, frogs, mushrooms, insects and so on. All these and more form the many threads in the rich tapestry that is your garden. We aim to explore the links between these components and share fellow gardeners' views and experiences.

When will it ready?

The short answer... never. There will always be new information to add, but our Plantbase is already being referenced by many as a useful resource. There is obviously a serious amount of information to add and we will keep adding more information daily, but this is a long term project. It is also a collaborative site with information coming from ordinary gardeners and professionals alike. All this information needs to be typed in, photos gathered and then published.

How can you help?

There are so many plants that our users would like to see in the Plantbase but it is going to take a long time to get close to the comprehensive list we would like. If you are keen to see a plant listed that isn't there yet, then please use the contact us form and let us know. We will try to add these requests first.

As with any website of this magnitude, there may be errors and we will rely on your feedback to get it right, so if you see a mistake, or have additional information, please contact us and let us know. Thanks in advance for your help!
